SNMK

Stiftelsen Norsk Maritim Kompetanse (SNMK) is a Norwegian foundation focused on strengthening skills and supporting recruitment among Norwegian seafarers. Its work centres on measures that help develop maritime competence and encourage people to pursue careers at sea. The foundation provides grants for training positions and offers support for projects connected with its aims. It also shares maritime figures and facts, alongside news and information about its activities.

SNMK’s website provides details about applying for funding, including application periods for grants supporting training positions. The foundation also recognises contributions to maritime training: it named Wilhelmsen Ship Management Maritime Training Company of the Year 2025, citing the company’s efforts to support apprentices and cadets as a contribution to developing future maritime skills.

Through funding, project support, information and recognition, SNMK works to promote a skilled workforce for Norway’s maritime sector. Its resources are intended for organisations and initiatives that contribute to training, competence development and recruitment among Norwegian seafarers.
