About Snoqualmie Indian Tribe
Snoqualmie Tribe is a sovereign tribal nation with its own constitution and laws, celebrating its sovereignty and Federal Recognition. The tribe signed the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855, affirming their inherent status as a separate sovereign nation, recognized by the United States government. Their reserved rights include fishing, hunting, and gathering in their ancestral homelands, activities they have been practicing for thousands of years.
October 6th holds special significance for the tribe, as it marks Snoqualmie Rights Day, celebrating their federally recognized status as a tribe. This year, marking 21 years since Federal Re-Recognition, the celebration will be held virtually due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The tribe invites everyone to join them in reflecting on the year, their rights, and their journey.
The Snoqualmie Rights Song, created by tribal member Angela Wymer, captures the spirit of their celebration and is performed by tribal members and cultural staff. You can watch the performance on their website
