Societenantaisedeprehistoire Snp

The Société Nantaise de Préhistoire (SNP) is a Nantes-based society dedicated to collecting, developing and sharing knowledge about Prehistory, Protohistory and archaeology. Its work focuses on the regional context, particularly western France, and welcomes people interested in archaeological research and heritage.

The society offers a varied programme of monthly lectures, outings and activities, bringing members and visitors into contact with archaeological sites, research and specialist perspectives. Its talks cover subjects ranging from Neolithic enclosures and prehistoric salt production to megaliths and ancient settlements. Family outings and guided visits provide opportunities to explore sites and museum collections.

SNP also supports learning through its library and publications, including study bulletins and monthly leaflets. Its online resources feature archaeological inventories and fieldwork reports for Loire-Atlantique, alongside archival collections of postcards and drawings. The society shares conference videos and information about its history, membership and upcoming events. Through these activities and resources, SNP encourages public engagement with the archaeological past and helps circulate knowledge of the region’s prehistoric and protohistoric heritage.
