SO – IL is an internationally recognized architecture and design firm based in New York. Established in 2008, our diverse team of collaborators, hailing from various backgrounds and speaking multiple languages, is informed by global narratives and perspectives. As a mid-sized, well-recognized company, we are both locally-rooted and nationless.

With ambitious private and public clients, we seek to create environments and objects that inspire lasting positive intellectual and societal engagement. Our projects span across the globe, from Leon to Seoul, Lisbon to our hometown of Brooklyn. In a digitized world that often isolates individuals, our architecture is outward-looking, encouraging meaningful dialogue with the outside world.

For example, our concept home for nomadic living in Milan promotes active awareness of life beyond routine. At the University of California, Davis campus, we designed a museum that fosters an open-ended relationship between visitors and the site. We approach our designs with a focus on time, meticulously investigating physical properties and history, whether working with existing structures or starting from scratch.

Our interventions honor the past while adapting to a dynamic future. Our work has been featured in renowned publications like the New York Times and CNN, and can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Our team has received accolades such as the Vilcek Award, the Curbed Groundbreakers Award, and the MoMAPS1 Young Architects Program Award.
