Soap Aid

Soap Aid is a not-for-profit organisation founded in Australia. Today across the globe over 2 billion people lack adequate sanitation. As a direct result, it is estimated that 1.8 million children under the age of 5 die each year due to hygiene related illnesses. This equates to 6,000 deaths each day. One of the major causes of childhood deaths is diarrhoea. By the simple act of a child washing their hands with a bar of soap, we could potentially reduce the number of diarrhoea cases by over 40 per cent. In an effort to prevent these needless deaths, we collect waste soap from hotels worldwide and send them to a central processing plant, where we re-process the discarded soaps and turn them back into new, useful bars of soap that will help save lives. Soap Aid was born from a Melbourne family’s 25 year involvement in the hotel amenities supply business and their deep understanding and consciousness about their commercial impact on the environment and desire to protect the global community.

About Soap Aid
Soap Aid is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to save children's lives through improved hygiene practices while also positively impacting the environment. Founded in 2011, Soap Aid was created in response to the alarming volumes of discarded hotel soap ending up in landfills each year. Soap Aid works in collaboration with the accommodation industry, reprocessing and delivering recycled guest soap to disadvantaged communities both in Australia and overseas.
This initiative not only helps prevent waste and reduce the environmental impact but also provides vital hygiene education to these communities, emphasizing the importance of handwashing with soap. As an ATO endorsed DGR type 1 and Tax Concession Charity, Soap Aid is governed by a board of professional volunteers. The organization is supported by Corporate and Hotel Champions who are dedicated to partnering with Soap Aid and transforming the lives of communities in need.
By recycling and supplying critically needed soap, Soap Aid and its partners are making a lifesaving impact and creating sustainable changes in global hygiene practices
