About SOAWatch
SOA Watch is a prominent nonviolent grassroots movement established in 1990 to combat U.S. military training programs that contribute to human rights abuses in Latin America. Founded by Father Roy Bourgeois in response to the UCA massacre in El Salvador, SOA Watch advocates for the closure of the School of the Americas (now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation), located in Fort Benning, Georgia. The organization has exposed the dark legacy of this military institution, which has trained over 80,000 Latin American soldiers, including many known for their involvement in atrocities.
SOA Watch's mission encompasses raising awareness about militarization and advocating for justice and peace throughout the Americas. Activities include educational webinars, mobilizations, and public vigils aimed at highlighting the negative impact of U.S. foreign policy on migration and human rights. With a commitment to solidarity, SOA Watch allies with various organizations to promote systemic change and uphold the dignity of marginalized communities.
