**Special Olympics BC - North Shore (SOBC)** is a vibrant community organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports and physical activities. Established following the vision of Dr. Frank Hayden and Harry ‘Red’ Foster, SOBC has played a pivotal role in promoting fitness and inclusivity since its inception in 1969. What began with four sports has now expanded to offer over twenty engaging programs that cater to athletes aged 2 and up, fostering opportunities for personal growth through activities like swimming, track and field, bowling, and soccer.

SOBC not only focuses on enhancing physical health but also emphasizes social integration, boosting self-esteem, and creating lasting friendships among athletes. The organization boasts a strong community of over 165 participants and more than 190 dedicated volunteers. Through initiatives like the annual Polar Plunge and March Madness Basketball Tournament, SOBC North Shore continues to inspire and challenge societal perceptions, all while enhancing the lives of its athletes and promoting a culture of acceptance and celebration.
