About Società Geologica It
Welcome to the official website of the Società Geologica Italiana (Italian Geological Society), founded in Bologna on September 29th, 1881. As the oldest and most representative scientific association in Italy in the field of geoscience, the SGI is dedicated to the progress, promotion, and dissemination of geological knowledge in both theoretical and applied aspects. With approximately 1500 members in Italy and abroad, 13 active sections, and a Documentation Center at the University of Siena's Center for Geotechnology, the SGI offers a wide range of services and resources.
These include divisions for editorial, higher education, didactics, finance, resources, and more, as well as specialized sections for marine geology, planetary geology, and more. The SGI also organizes conferences, workshops, and field trips, and publishes various scientific publications. Through its activities and initiatives, the SGI strives to foster the understanding and appreciation of the Earth's geological processes and resources.
