About Social Mission Alliance
Social Mission Alliance (SMA) is a national movement dedicated to promoting health equity and training health professionals as catalysts for more equitable healthcare. Our mission goes beyond traditional healthcare education to prepare providers who can build a system that is not only better, but fairer. The movement started with a 2012 conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which highlighted medical schools with a strong commitment to social mission and created a collaborative platform for innovation.
Since then, we have expanded to include educators, practitioners, administrators, students from various health professions, community leaders, and policymakers who are transforming healthcare education. Previously known as the Beyond Flexner Alliance, we have now evolved into the Social Mission Alliance. Our vision is to integrate social mission into health professions education to drive health equity for individuals, families, and communities.
Through our initiatives in health workforce diversity, professional development, advocacy, and more, we mobilize and amplify learners, teachers, and organizations to advance equity in education, research, service, policy, and practice. Join us in shaping the future of healthcare
