The Sociedad Geológica de España (SGE) is a nonprofit scientific association dedicated to promoting, advancing, and sharing geological knowledge and its applications. Its community includes around 1,000 members from universities, public research centres, secondary schools, and private companies in Spain and other parts of Europe, the Americas, and Africa. The society supports research and professional exchange through scientific sessions, conferences, field meetings, specialist commissions, travel grants, and awards for emerging geologists and student work.
Its commissions bring together expertise in areas such as tectonics, geological heritage, sedimentary geology, marine and planetary geology, and the history of geology in Spain. The SGE also publishes and provides access to geological resources, including Geogaceta, the Revista de la Sociedad Geológica de España, Geo-Temas, guidebooks, chronicles, and books. For wider audiences, it develops outreach activities such as Geolodía, talks, educational games, geology olympiads, and other learning initiatives.
Through membership and public engagement, the SGE fosters understanding of Earth sciences and the protection of geological heritage
