The Société Archéologique de Bordeaux is a scholarly society founded in 1873 by people interested in antiquities and the archaeological remains uncovered during Bordeaux’s urban development. It works to support the preservation and study of monuments and archaeological heritage in Bordeaux and the surrounding region. Based at the Hôtel des Sociétés savantes, the society brings together people with varied interests in history, archaeology and heritage.
Its activities include public courses, talks, excursions and guided visits. Topics range from archaeological discoveries and historic architecture to art, jewellery and the development of Bordeaux’s urban landscape. The society also publishes the Revue Archéologique de Bordeaux and other publications, with information available about its catalogue and the digitisation of its materials. Members and visitors can find details about joining, the society’s history, its presidents, statutes and partners through its official site.
The society also contributes to local heritage monitoring. Its regular public hours have resumed on Thursday afternoons, and it provides a contact number for urgent reports about threatened heritage.
