SECOS is the Millennium Institute for Socio-Ecological Coastal Sustainability, a center of excellence in Chile. They focus on researching the main drivers of environmental and socioeconomic changes along the Chilean coast, as well as the challenges that hinder sustainability. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and the strengthening of scientific resources, SECOS addresses urgent questions concerning the sustainability of three socio-ecological systems: artisanal fishing, shellfish aquaculture, and coastal development.

SECOS utilizes co-production and co-creation methods to generate innovative knowledge and solutions for coastal sustainability. As a part of the Millennium Program of the National Agency for Research and Development, SECOS collaborates with multiple stakeholders and enhances public participation processes. Their work encompasses scientific research, public policy analysis, regulatory mapping, consultations, and the intersection of art and science.

By investigating these systems from a holistic perspective, SECOS contributes to understanding the challenges and opportunities for sustainable coastal practices, ensuring long-term environmental and social well-being.
