About Society of Forensic Toxicologists
The Society of Forensic Toxicologists (SOFT) is an esteemed organization dedicated to the promotion and development of forensic toxicology. Comprised of practicing forensic toxicologists as well as those interested in the field, SOFT aims to advance education, establish standards, and foster understanding within the profession. SOFT's history dates back to 1970 when a group of forensic toxicologists recognized the need for regular gatherings outside of annual meetings.
This led to the first Interim Toxicology Meeting in Long Island, NY, where informative discussions took place. Following this success, the meetings became an annual event, focusing on relevant topics of the time. In 1974, SOFT held its first formal meeting in Chapel Hill, N.
C., marking a turning point for the organization. Since then, SOFT has published newsletters, awarded research grants, conducted workshops, and established a website to support its members. With its official incorporation in 1983, SOFT continues to balance professionalism and camaraderie, ensuring expertise and goodwill within the forensic toxicology community
