SOKOS is a volunteer-run association based in Bologna, Italy, providing free social and healthcare assistance to people facing vulnerability and social exclusion. Since 1993, it has focused particularly on migrants without residence permits and people experiencing homelessness, while welcoming anyone living in conditions of exclusion. Its work is guided by the belief that health is a right for everyone, without discrimination.
The association operates a walk-in general medicine clinic open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Its services include general medical care, specialist consultations, examinations and treatments, and access to a pharmacy. SOKOS has also developed projects to provide dental care and strengthen its blood-testing laboratory. These initiatives have received support from the Waldensian Church through its eight-per-thousand funding programme.
In addition to delivering care, SOKOS offers opportunities for volunteering and curricular internships, and invites the public to support its work through donations and Italy’s 5x1000 tax designation. Its services are based in the Navile district of Bologna.
