About SOLAS
**SOLAS (Surface Ocean - Lower Atmosphere Study)** is an international research initiative established in 2004, dedicated to unraveling the intricate biogeochemical and physical interactions between the ocean and atmosphere. With a vision to quantify how these interactions influence and are influenced by climate change, SOLAS has made significant strides over the past decade, including the publication of impactful synthesis works. The program focuses on five core themes: greenhouse gases and the oceans, air-sea interface dynamics, atmospheric deposition and its effects on ocean biogeochemistry, interactions among marine ecosystems, aerosols, and clouds, and the ocean's role in atmospheric chemistry.
SOLAS operates through structured global scientific networks, featuring collaborations among oceanographers, ecologists, biochemists, physicists, chemists, and atmospheric scientists. The organization encourages bottom-up participation and has established national networks for localized research efforts. SOLAS aims to further develop its science plan for 2015-2025, addressing key ocean-atmosphere research themes and contributing to a deeper understanding of environmental changes and climate intervention strategies.
