About Sol Spaces
The University of Alberta's campus solar greenhouse, powered by Exceed Solar, is an innovative hub for interdisciplinary research and education. Designed and led by students, the greenhouse aims to explore sustainable energy solutions, particularly in Edmonton's winter climate. With a focus on renewable energy, aquaculture systems, and maintaining optimal conditions for plant growth, this project serves as a valuable learning opportunity for students and faculty alike.
Despite initial challenges, the project has thrived through collaboration across various faculties, sparking new insights into solar-power design. The off-grid system, driven by battery storage, offers both challenges and opportunities for further development. Through thermal modeling and plant selection, the team continues to enhance heating and cooling systems while striving for sustainable practices.
