Solstaskärets

Solstaskärets Långfärdsskridskoklubb is a skating club based in Karlstad, serving members across southern Värmland. Founded in 2000, the association has around 700 members and 50 leaders. It helps people discover long-distance skating on natural ice, from small forest lakes to Lake Vänern, with a season that usually runs from November to March.

The club offers introductory courses and welcoming beginner tours, alongside a broad programme of outings for skaters of different experience levels. Trips visit nearby and more distant destinations, with travel by car or bus. Skating in a group combines outdoor recreation, exercise and social connection, while providing additional safety. Members can also access information on ice conditions, safety, equipment and tour planning through the club’s resources.

For those who are new to the sport or want to try it before buying their own gear, the club offers long-distance skating equipment for hire. Solstaskäret also manages the plowed skating track at Mariebergsviken, helping make local ice skating more accessible.
