Somali Development Services CIC

Somali Development Services (SDS) is a Leicester-based community interest company supporting the Somali community and other new arrivals. Established in 2001 and incorporated in 2004, SDS has worked since 2017 as a non-profit CIC, helping people participate in the city’s economic, social and community life. Its work focuses on empowerment, inclusion, education, employment, health and wellbeing, and environmental awareness.

SDS provides advice, information and guidance on issues including housing, family support, finances, employment, healthcare, education and careers. Its education and careers services include language courses, support with educational integration, careers pathways, training and help finding employment. The organisation also offers community, family and youth support, alongside health-related initiatives such as cancer support, dementia awareness and local healthcare information. A food bank and drop-in advice centre help people facing hardship access practical assistance and guidance.

SDS runs classes, tuition, school projects, events and community projects. Its in-house nursery serves children aged two to four, but is temporarily closed for maintenance and is not currently enrolling.
