Founded in 1928 originally as the Historical Society of Basking Ridge, the mission and name of the society was later changed to The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization including all five communities of the Somerset Hills region: Bedminster Township, Bernards Township, Bernardsville, Far Hills, and Peapack-Gladstone, which are all located in Somerset County, New Jersey.

About Somerset Hills Historical Society
The Historical Society of the Somerset Hills (THSSH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Somerset Hills region in Somerset County, New Jersey. Founded in 1928 as the Historical Society of Basking Ridge, it now serves Bedminster Township, Bernards Township, Bernardsville, Far Hills, and Peapack-Gladstone. Its work follows the guiding idea, “Study the Past, Record the Present, Connect the Future,” and is sustained by members, donors, sponsors, and volunteers.
THSSH offers educational programs, community events, research resources, and access to online collections featuring local photographs and documents. Its newsletters, books, and local history blog share stories and information about the region. Visitors can explore the Basking Ridge Historical Interactive Map and highlights from the Society’s collections. The museum is open on the first Sunday of each month, while the library and research room are available by appointment. THSSH also welcomes volunteers and offers membership and donation opportunities to support its mission.
