Songbird Speech

Songbird Speech & Family Services, PLLC is a bilingual, neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy and family services practice serving Belvidere and the greater Rockford area of Illinois. The practice supports autistic and neurodivergent people through child-led, relationship-based care that respects individual communication styles, interests, and needs. Services are available in English and Spanish, in clients’ homes or virtually, for children, teens, and young adults.

Songbird specializes in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), gestalt language processing and echolalia, bilingual speech and language development, and affirming social communication support. Its approach emphasizes meaningful communication and self-advocacy across communication modalities, while partnering with parents and caregivers through coaching and feedback. The practice also offers parent, caregiver, and professional consultations, along with neurodiversity-affirming IEP advocacy and review support. Educators, clinicians, school teams, and community partners can access professional development and training on gestalt language processing, child-led therapy, and affirming practices. Founded by a mother-daughter team with more than 24 years of combined special education experience, Songbird aims to help families and professionals provide respectful, individualized support.
