At SONGO, we are dedicated to improving the lives of children living in townships by providing them with a safe place to play, grow, and develop. Our social development program in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch uses sport and education to create opportunities for children, while instilling essential life skills for a brighter future. Our journey began with a serendipitous encounter between Christoph Sauser, a World Champion mountain biker, and Songo Fipaza, a Kayamandi community leader.

Together, they established a powerful collaboration that has positively impacted vulnerable youth for over a decade. Kayamandi, our home, is one of the oldest townships in the Western Cape. It is a vibrant community with limited economic opportunities due to the effects of apartheid government policies.

Despite these challenges, we celebrate a decade of building brighter futures. Sport, particularly cycling, forms the foundation of our program. Through camaraderie, freedom, and joy, we use sports to teach important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

Structured play also promotes physical and mental health benefits. In addition to sports, our education program provides personalized schooling support and learning resources. We strive to create a conducive learning environment that supports our children's academic success.

We strongly believe that education is the most powerful tool to change the world, as Nelson Mandela once said.
