Sophia Choukas-Bradley, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist, award-winning researcher, writer, and public speaker whose work examines how social media and digital technology shape young people’s mental health and development. She is a tenured associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where she directs the Teen and Young Adult (TAYA) Lab, and serves as Clinical Psychology Lead in an honorary capacity at the Center for Digital Thriving at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Through the TAYA Lab, Choukas-Bradley and her team study sociocultural influences on the wellbeing and development of people aged 10 to 29. Her research focuses especially on social media’s effects on adolescent girls’ body image and mental health, alongside broader questions involving digital technology, gender, and sexuality. She shares her findings with academic and general audiences through writing, speaking, media appearances, and educational resources. Her website also features information about research projects, the lab team, and opportunities for prospective students. Choukas-Bradley is currently writing her first book, BEYOND THE LOOKING GLASS, scheduled for publication in 2027.
