Soque

The Soque River Watershed Association (SRWA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1998 to protect and restore the Soque River and its watershed in Habersham County, Northeast Georgia. The Soque begins and ends within the county and is an important source of drinking water for Clarkesville, as well as a headwater tributary of the Chattahoochee River. SRWA works with residents, volunteers, officials, and community partners to support clean water and conservation.

Its programs include weekly volunteer water monitoring at river and creek sites, riverbank restoration, riparian planting, sediment removal, culvert inspections, and community cleanup projects. The association also manages the Clarkesville Greenway Trail, contributes to conservation planning, and offers school and community education on water quality, environmental challenges, and stewardship. SRWA organizes outdoor activities and community events, and invites people to participate through volunteering, membership, donations, and event attendance. Its volunteer opportunities include water sample collection, cleanup work, planting projects, event support, photography, and educational outreach. Through these efforts, SRWA works to preserve the watershed for future generations.
