About #SOSBrutalism
SOSBrutalism is an innovative platform dedicated to the preservation of Brutalist architecture. Established in 2015 by the Wüstenrot Stiftung and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt, it has rapidly evolved into a significant global initiative, now documenting over 2,300 Brutalist buildings. This unique campaign not only creates a comprehensive database but also serves to raise awareness about threatened structures, with around 175 buildings currently on the RED LIST, facing potential demolition or alterations.
The brand actively engages with scholars, photographers, and Brutalism enthusiasts, fostering a community committed to saving these architectural concrete monsters. The initiative promotes best practices through detailed documentation of notable renovation projects, with the aim of transforming endangered buildings into recognized cultural heritage sites.
With a strong social media presence and numerous exhibitions across cities like Vienna and New Haven, #SOSBrutalism has garnered international attention. The ongoing mission, supported by the Wüstenrot Foundation, encourages public participation, making it a pioneering force in the advocacy for Brutalist architecture.
