South Okanagan-Similkameen Conservation Program

The South Okanagan Similkameen Conservation Program (SOSCP) is a regional partnership dedicated to conserving the distinctive species, habitats, and natural spaces of British Columbia’s South Okanagan and Similkameen. Founded in 2000, it brings together about 50 government and non-government organizations, Indigenous cultural and academic institutions, and other partners in an area recognized for its exceptional biodiversity and conservation needs. SOSCP coordinates and supports partners’ efforts, helps advance shared conservation priorities, and raises awareness of the importance of nature in the region.

The program promotes ecologically sustainable land-use decisions by providing planners, developers, and decision-makers with information, tools, and expertise. Its work also supports landscape connectivity, habitat protection, and stewardship on public and private land. SOSCP encourages community participation through partnerships with environmental organizations, schools, and nature festivals, and applies science to guide action and support research on at-risk species and ecosystems. Its resources include conservation publications and program reports, planning guidance, materials for qualified environmental professionals and land developers, agriculture resources, and information about establishing local conservation funds.
