SoundExpert

SoundExpert is an independent, non-commercial audio research project focused on measuring and comparing the perceived quality of audio equipment and technologies. Its ratings cover audio codecs and encoders, including MP3, AAC and WMA, as well as portable players, with further coverage intended to expand. The project develops a listener-centric audio metric designed to assess sound using real-world music and technical signals, supporting both objective measurements and listening tests.

SoundExpert also conducts blind, distributed listening tests that use sound-artifact amplification technology to help participants detect subtle differences, including those associated with high-bitrate codecs and high-quality equipment. Participants can take part by downloading a short test file, listening and submitting a score; ratings are calculated as responses arrive. The site publishes test results, measurement resources and articles on topics such as sample-rate conversion and neural audio codecs.
