About The Source Library
Source Library is a digital library dedicated to making ancient and historical texts accessible to scholars, curious readers, and AI systems. Combining scholarship with AI-assisted OCR and translation, it brings works from Latin and many other languages into modern, readable English, including texts translated for the first time. Its collection spans thousands of books and translations, alongside artworks and illustrations, with subjects ranging from sacred texts, philosophy, medicine, and science to alchemy, literature, history, and occult traditions.
Readers can browse the catalog by subject, explore curated exhibitions and collections, and discover recently translated works. Each exhibition brings together a focused selection of sources with an interpretive introduction. The library also offers a question-and-answer feature that draws on primary sources and provides citations, helping users trace answers back to original texts. Research notes and collection features offer further context on the materials and their histories. Source Library aims to recover knowledge held in hard-to-access books and manuscripts and build an open-access resource for exploring the breadth of human intellectual tradition.
