About National Gallery of Ireland
The National Gallery of Ireland is a public art institution in Dublin, with its archives and special collections offering resources for exploring Irish art, Italian art, and the Gallery’s own history. Its archival collections are held in the Centre for the Study of Irish Art and the Yeats Archive, and include material on Irish artists and cultural history, the activities of Italian art scholar, connoisseur, and collector Sir Denis Mahon, and the institution’s official records dating from the 1850s onwards.
Visitors can browse the archive catalogue by collection and discover stories drawn from the holdings. Featured subjects include William Orpen, the Yeats family and Jack B. Yeats, Irish women artists, and illustrations of Homer’s Odyssey in the Yeats Archive. The Gallery also presents rotating archive exhibitions, including displays in its galleries. Its research and reference services are open to the public, with staff available to assist with research queries through the Centre for the Study of Irish Art and the Library Reading Room.
