The South African Cultural Observatory, established by the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture, is dedicated to creating a comprehensive cultural information system in South Africa. Hosted by Nelson Mandela University and partnered with Rhodes University and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, we focus on arts, tourism, heritage, libraries, and museums. Our research includes policy-focused surveys, program reviews, and impact assessments. We collect statistics, promote networking, and publish insightful reports.
Led by Executive Director Ms. Unathi Lutshaba, we provide valuable insights into the cultural and creative industries, contributing 2.9% to the national GDP and generating 1 million jobs. As one of three such observatories in Africa, we collaborate globally to enhance cultural and sports economies. Join us in building a dynamic and socially cohesive nation through our research and initiatives. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube for the latest updates.
