About South Carolina 250
The South Carolina 250 (SC250) is a state commission established by the SC General Assembly in 2018 with the mission to celebrate and promote South Carolina’s significant role in the American Revolution. The commission is responsible for planning and executing proper observance of the Sestercentennial of the American Revolution in South Carolina, with a focus on educating, engaging, and inspiring South Carolinians and visitors.
SC250's strategic goals include discovering and celebrating South Carolina’s Revolutionary Era, preserving and interpreting Revolutionary scholarship and sites, educating about South Carolina’s roles in the American Revolution, and promoting local 250th anniversary commemorative events, arts, preservation, heritage tourism infrastructure, and corresponding economic development.
The commission collaborates with statutory partners such as the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, and the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust to support and promote research and cultural heritage tourism, showcasing South Carolina’s stories from diverse perspectives.
