About Southern Photographic Society
The Southern Photographic Society is a friendly photography club founded in 1971 to support photographers in the south of the Isle of Man. Today, it welcomes members from across the Island and beyond, offering an informal, inclusive community for people of all ages, experience levels and camera types. Beginners and experienced photographers alike can develop their skills, share knowledge and enjoy photography together.
The Society meets on alternate Wednesday evenings from September to May at Colby AFC Clubhouse. Its programme includes presentations and demonstrations by local photographers and visiting experts, practical workshops, instructional sessions and monthly competitions. Members can receive constructive feedback, view one another’s work and take part in annual inter-club competitions. During the summer, the club arranges photography trips, outings and photo walks, with activities shaped by members’ interest and suggestions.
The Society also exhibits members’ prints at local events and maintains a display of more than 40 prints at Noble’s Hospital. Prints are available to purchase, with a share of proceeds supporting the Noble’s Patients’ Comfort Trust.
