SR-AHEC

Southern Regional Area Health Education Center (SR-AHEC) is a health education and workforce development organization based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Its work focuses on preparing and supporting health professionals while helping improve access to care across the region. SR-AHEC offers continuing professional development for physicians, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, and professionals in allied, behavioral, and public health. These programs help practicing providers stay current with new developments, evidence-based practices, and patient-care approaches.

The organization also supports health care education through residency and student programs. It is home to Fayetteville’s first family medicine residency, recruiting eight resident physicians each year for a three-year program that prepares them for board certification. SR-AHEC aims to retain graduates in local communities, strengthening primary care capacity and health access across its nine-county region. Since 1974, more than 250 doctors have completed the residency, and almost half have remained in the area. Its educational offerings also address practical clinical topics, including stroke, heart attack, respiratory conditions, sepsis, nursing documentation, and emerging technologies in health care.
