About Southern Spaces
Southern Spaces is an open access journal published by the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, focused on the exploration of real and imagined spaces and places of the US South and their global connections. Our aim is to provide informative content for researchers, teachers, students, and interested readers in a variety of humanities and social science disciplines. Through our peer-reviewed articles, photo essays, reviews, presentations, short videos, and monographs, we delve into the many facets of the South, offering critical examinations of its history, geography, and expressive cultural forms.
We welcome submissions from scholars, photographers, journalists, and artists in fields such as geography, southern studies, African American and Indigenous studies, gender studies, and social justice. As a digital publication, Southern Spaces leverages the internet's capabilities to deliver multimedia content, including audio, video, images, text, and data. We are committed to providing a stable digital presence for our content, and operational costs are supported by the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship.
