The City of South Perth Historical Society is a volunteer-run organisation dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and heritage of South Perth and surrounding areas, including Como, Karawara, Kensington, Manning, Salter Point and Waterford. Based at Heritage House, a historic building dating from 1904 in the Mends Street heritage precinct, the Society welcomes visitors on Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm.
The Society offers opportunities to explore local heritage through exhibitions, events and information about notable sites such as the South Perth Police Station, the Old Mill and Millers Cottage, and the Windsor Hotel. Its displays include the May and Herbert Gibbs art collection, with images of May Gibbs’ work used with acknowledgement of the Northcott Society and Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Visitors can also browse the gift shop and see Ferry Tram B15, supported by a restoration project and a purpose-built tram barn.
