About Home Southwest Washington Woodturners
Southwest Washington Woodturners (SWW) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization serving woodturners in Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon. As a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners, it promotes the art and craft of woodturning through education, demonstrations, classes, and community outreach. Members meet monthly, except in December, in Vancouver, Washington, with demonstrations by woodturning artists and a social hour before meetings.
SWW offers classes for members throughout the year, providing access to lathes, tools, chucks, and drives. Classes may also be open to nonmembers when space is available. The organization shares newsletters, maintains a library and resource information, and connects members with local vendors offering discounts. Members also help reclaim locally available wood from trees felled because of damage, disease, or construction.
Community activities include public demonstrations, such as the chapter’s appearances at the Clark County Fair, where members introduce visitors to woodturning and make spin tops for children. SWW also holds classes to create wig stands, which are donated to cancer patients receiving chemotherapy at the Legacy Cancer Institute.
