La SPA de Lyon is an independent animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing animals in distress, including those that are lost, abandoned, or mistreated. Established in 1853 and recognized as a public utility in 1893, the organization operates refuges in Brignais and Dompierre-sur-Veyle, where they care for a variety of animals including cats, dogs, and small pets. The SPA de Lyon not only facilitates adoptions but also supports community efforts by engaging in animal sterilization and identification programs.

They provide financial assistance for pet owners to help with veterinary costs and offer temporary care for animals belonging to individuals in financial distress. Through various initiatives like anti-cruelty investigations and public awareness campaigns, the organization actively promotes responsible pet ownership and the protection of domestic and stray animals. They also encourage community participation through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer opportunities, making a significant impact on animal welfare in the region
