Spartanburg Area Conservancy (SPACE), a nonprofit land trust based in Spartanburg, SC, is dedicated to land conservation, parks management, and environmental outreach. Our mission is to promote, protect, and preserve natural resources and open spaces in the Spartanburg community. We achieve this through strategic acquisitions, land donations, and conservation easements, preserving over 5,000 acres of land in our region.
Our system of public preserves, including the renowned Cottonwood Trail, provides access to green spaces and the natural world for both people and wildlife. We work closely with private landowners and partner agencies to ensure the conservation of valuable land through voluntary conservation easements. Our protected properties encompass diverse features such as watershed protection, wetlands, historically significant land, farms, forests, and habitats for rare and threatened species.
We are proud to be accredited by the Land Trust Alliance's National Accreditation Program, representing our commitment to land conservation.
