About SPBD
The Portuguese Society of Developmental Biology (SPBD) is a scientific society founded in 2006 to represent Portuguese developmental biologists and strengthen connections across the field. It communicates with its members and the wider developmental biology community in Portugal and internationally. The society also welcomes researchers in related disciplines, supporting research and educational activities of mutual interest.
SPBD’s main activities include organizing Development in Action (DIA), a conference series created to encourage scientific exchange within Portugal’s developmental biology community. It also promotes and organizes national and international meetings and workshops, and represents Portuguese developmental biology in international settings. Through its website, SPBD shares news, events, job listings, links, and information about research groups in developmental biology across Portuguese cities. It also highlights the SPBD prize for the best thesis in the field and provides resources introducing developmental biology. SPBD is a member of the International Society of Developmental Biology, whose official journal, Cells & Development, focuses on interdisciplinary research into how cells function and how embryos develop.
