Special is a holding company building an AI operating system for critical American industries. Rather than simply supplying software, Special directly owns and operates its companies and controls how SpecialOS is deployed across them. The system combines proprietary data generated by each business with software and fine-tuned models, creating what the company describes as a compounding advantage. It also integrates frontier models from leading AI labs and routes tasks to the models best suited to perform them.

Special focuses on industries it believes will remain important beyond the arrival of artificial general intelligence, including senior care and American reindustrialization. Its company Figure Health is focused on aging populations and aims to maximize the value of senior care delivery, helping Americans live longer and healthier lives. The company highlights the growing population of older adults and the pressures this creates for the caregiver workforce as key reasons for its focus.

Special introduced the company and announced a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz in June 2026.
