Special Children’s Charities is a Chicago-based nonprofit that has worked since 1969 to advance inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization is Chicago’s largest funder of inclusive athletics, arts, and enrichment opportunities, and its mission is to expand access to programs that support participants’ growth, well-being, and independence. Its free, year-round offerings serve people across all 77 Chicago neighborhoods, with programs taking place in more than 200 parks and schools.

Activities include inclusive sports and recreation that build fitness, confidence, and teamwork; art and music therapy that encourage creativity, expression, and emotional well-being; and life-enrichment experiences that foster cultural participation, social connection, and personal growth. Special Children’s Charities also brings the community together through signature events, including the Polar Plunge Chicago for Special Olympics Illinois, an annual evening reception, and Team Special Children’s Charities in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
