About Specialised Aquatic Feeds
Specialised Aquatic Feeds (SAF) is a proudly South African manufacturer of formulated nutrition for aquaculture. Operating from Hermanus, the company is a Level Three B-BBEE-certified feed factory serving local and export markets. SAF produces specialised diets for abalone, trout, tilapia and catfish, as well as OptiGoi koi feed and PNP pigeon pellets. It also provides contract manufacturing of pet foods.
The company began as Abagold Limited’s effort to develop in-house abalone diets and reduce reliance on externally purchased feed. In 2014, the feed operation became a separate legal entity and expanded its work across freshwater and saline aquaculture species. SAF draws on experience in aquaculture and nutritional science, supported by ongoing research and development, to tailor diets to customers’ production systems and feeding requirements.
Beyond manufacturing, its team offers advice on husbandry practices to help farmers maximise feed performance. Guided by values of integrity, quality, creativity, respect and accountability, SAF aims to contribute to sustainable aquaculture globally.
