About The American Spectator
The American Spectator is a renowned brand that has been providing insightful and engaging content since its founding in 1924. Originally established by George Jean Nathan and Truman Newberry over a cheap domestic ale in McSorley’s Old Ale House, the brand has evolved over the years. In 1967, it was taken over by the Saturday Evening Club and rebranded as The Alternative: An American Spectator.
However, by 1977, the original name was restored due to the word alternative becoming associated with unsolicited manuscripts from unrelated fields. The American Spectator is committed to publishing content without bias, disregarding gender, lifestyle, race, color, creed, physical handicap, or national origin. Additionally, the brand's foundation aims to educate the public on traditional American values, including economic freedom, individual liberty, self-sufficiency, and limited government.
Through their platform, they also train and nurture young writers, providing them with a pathway to a career in journalism. With a diverse range of conservative writers and thinkers, The American Spectator continues to be a trusted source of news and political insights.
