About speleology.jp
The Japanese Speleological Society is Japan’s national organization for the study of caves and the activities associated with cave exploration. Founded in 1975, it brings together interests in cave science, including research into cave organisms and underground water, as well as geology and caving. The Society aims to investigate cave-related phenomena from scientific and multidisciplinary perspectives and to advance and promote speleology.
In 1996, it merged with several caving and volcanic-cave organizations, and it registered with the Science Council of Japan in 1999. It also participates in the International Union of Speleology, a federation of cave science organizations from 61 countries. The Society publishes the Journal of Speleological Society of Japan and organizes annual meetings and other events, alongside its general meetings.
Its website provides information about membership, publications, activities, and related resources. It also shares ethical standards and rules for caving and cave surveys, as well as guidance on risk management for guided caving tours. The organization supports informed, responsible engagement with caves through research, education, and shared practices
