About Spelling Mistakes Cost Lives
Darren Cullen is a satirical artist, writer, and illustrator known for his thought-provoking and critical work. Born in the UK to Irish immigrant parents, Cullen initially trained in advertising but was disillusioned by the ethical implications of the industry. He turned to fine art, using the language of advertising to create pieces that challenge consumerism and military recruitment.
His notable works include the anti-army recruitment booklet 'Join the Army,' and the satirical short films series 'Action Man: Battlefield Casualties,' shedding light on the Ministry of Defence's targeting of children through its toy range. Cullen's art delves into the intersection of capitalism and childhood innocence, often addressing the impact of consumerism on the younger generation. In 2019, he co-curated the Museum of Neoliberalism in London.
His work can be found at www. spellingmistakescostlives. com.
Not to be confused with the graffiti artist of the same name, Cullen's thought-provoking and impactful art challenges the status quo
