The Portuguese Statistical Society (SPE) is a professional and scientific organisation dedicated to promoting Probability and Statistics and their applications in Portugal. It supports the development and recognition of statistical study and research, while encouraging knowledge-sharing across academic, professional and public communities. SPE organises scientific and educational sessions and participates in events related to statistics and data science. Its activities include conferences, short courses and initiatives for young people and students, such as the SPE Junior Club and Explorística.

The Society also promotes awards that recognise achievement and encourage engagement with the field. These include prizes for young researchers and students, a career award, and the SPE Data Journalism Award, which honours innovative and rigorous use of data, visualisation and statistical analysis in the media. SPE serves its members through membership opportunities, institutional partnerships, sections and committees, and professional resources. Its publications include a regular newsletter, conference proceedings, educational and historical works, and other material of interest to the statistical community.
