Stichting Pramenrace In Ere (SPIE) is the volunteer-led organization behind Aalsmeer’s annual Pramenrace, a community boating event held on the second Saturday of September. SPIE took over its organization in 1996 from De Illegale Peurders, who launched the race in 1987 with three boats. Since then, the event has grown into a major village celebration, attracting more than 160 teams.

Participants navigate Aalsmeer’s waterways in traditional flat-bottomed wooden prams powered by classic Penta motors, completing themed challenges along the route. Teams can enter speed, women’s, “bokken” or recreational categories, and many decorate their boats to match the annual theme. The race is also a public spectacle, enjoyed by spectators along the water.

In the week before the event, SPIE organizes additional Pramenrace activities and publishes the Praambode, a local newspaper featuring race news and information. Its work is supported by a board, committees, volunteers, sponsors and local partners. SPIE also presents the SPIE Order each year to recognize a person or business for their contribution to the Pramenrace.
