St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health &Rights

St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights (SPIRHR) is an Ethiopian institute working closely with St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights. Its mission is to help reduce maternal mortality and morbidity by coordinating clinical services, training, research, and advocacy, supporting girls and women to reach their full potential.

Through its Michu Clinic and related programs, SPIRHR provides reproductive health services that include family planning, vasectomy, and comprehensive abortion care. The institute also works to improve the quality and accessibility of care through information, information and communications technology, and quality-improvement activities. Its training initiatives strengthen pre-service and in-service education for reproductive health providers, while fellowships and continuing professional development support clinical learning. SPIRHR builds research capacity and shares studies, guidance, and practical resources to inform policy and practice. Its advocacy includes community engagement and efforts to promote reproductive health and rights. The institute also convenes annual reproductive health conferences and provides educational materials, training, and digital tools, including the Ethiopian Pregnancy Calendar app, for providers and learners.
