SPNA, short for De Stichting Proefboerderijen Noordelijke Akkerbouw, is a leading research institution for the agricultural sector in the Northern clay region. With two proefboerderijen (experimental farms) under its belt, SPNA conducts cutting-edge research and offers a range of services to support the agricultural industry.

Proefboerderij Kollumerwaard, located in Munnekezijl, focuses on practical research in the field of (seed) potatoes and sugar beets. They conduct both conventional and organic cultivation experiments. On the other hand, Proefboerderij Ebelsheerd in Nieuw Beerta specializes in research on grains, rapeseed, and sugar beets. Additionally, Ebelsheerd is home to a state-of-the-art laboratory, where supplementary tests are carried out to enhance the practical research.

SPNA is authorized and certified with GEP and TNG certifications, which allow them to conduct efficacy and phytotoxicity studies on crop protection products, including non-authorized ones.
