About Sociedade Portuguesa de Nefrologia
The Portuguese Society of Nephrology (SPN) is a public-benefit institution founded in 1978 to promote scientific activity in nephrology. It brings together professionals and supports the development and exchange of knowledge across the specialty in Portugal. Its work is reflected in specialist working groups covering areas such as dialysis, renal pathology, immunonephrology, genetics, cancer-related kidney care, and chronic kidney disease.
SPN provides educational and professional resources, including webinars, vodcasts, clinical case quizzes, digital library materials, and guidance for people living with kidney disease and their caregivers. It also supports scientific meetings and training, with events such as the Encontro Renal and the Portuguese Congress of Nephrology, alongside courses on topics including renal nutrition and acid-base and electrolyte disorders.
The society publishes and provides access to nephrology content through the Portuguese Journal of Nephrology and Hypertension, the Portuguese Kidney Journal, and conference abstracts. Members can access professional information, society services, and opportunities to engage with SPN’s activities.
