About SPREP
SPREP is a regional organization dedicated to protecting and managing the environment and natural resources of the Pacific. With its headquarters in Apia, Samoa, and additional offices in Fiji, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Vanuatu, SPREP has around 150 staff recruited from the Pacific region and beyond. Operating with an annual budget of approximately USD35 million in 2022, SPREP was established in 1993 as a commitment to better environmental management within the context of sustainable development.
Guided by its 2017-2026 Strategic Plan, SPREP aims to promote cooperation, provide assistance, and ensure sustainable development in the Pacific region for present and future generations. With 21 Pacific island member countries and territories, as well as five metropolitan countries, SPREP focuses on four regional goals: strengthening climate change resilience, protecting island and ocean ecosystems, improving waste management and pollution control, and promoting environmental governance. By valuing the environment, its people, high-quality service delivery, and integrity, SPREP works towards creating a resilient Pacific environment in harmony with cultures
